Faro is the gateway to the Algarve, and the airport is only a few kilometres from the city. What matters most is how far along the coast your hotel is, as both Lagos and Tavira are quite a journey away.

Bus and regional train

A bus runs from the airport to Faro, and from there the regional train takes you along the coast. It is inexpensive and perfectly fine for flexible travellers, but luggage and the changeover do cost time. For resorts away from the railway line, you will still need a taxi afterwards.

Private transfer: fixed price and a driver who waits

A pre-booked private transfer means: the driver knows your flight number, waits if you are delayed, the price is fixed before booking, and luggage is included. It is the best option for late arrivals, for families needing child seats, and for anywhere farther away than the city centre. If you are travelling light and want to stay spontaneous, you will not need it.

Uber in Faro: available, but keep the season in mind

Ride services are common in Portugal and can also be used in Faro. In peak season, demand can outstrip the number of available cars, and in smaller coastal towns things can thin out in the evening. It works well for getting from the airport into the city, but for longer journeys it is better to plan ahead.

When a private transfer makes sense

For Lagos, Albufeira, Carvoeiro or Tavira, a pre-booked driver is the most comfortable option, especially if your flight arrives late, if you are travelling with family, or if you have golf bags. A fixed price agreed before booking saves you the discussion at the taxi rank.

Hire car: almost a given in the Algarve

Beaches, cliff paths and villages are spread far apart, and a car really opens up the Algarve. Book early, especially in summer, and watch out for the electronic toll roads, which can lead to extra charges if you do not have a transponder.

How Reisedrop handles the question after booking

After your hotel booking we do not ask whether you want to buy a transfer, we ask how you are getting to your accommodation in Faro. You see two options side by side: a private transfer you lock in beforehand, and a direct link into the Uber app with your destination pre-filled if you would rather stay flexible. No flood of suppliers, no invented guide prices. Private transfers and rental cars are booked with external providers, and with Uber you are forwarded straight to Uber. Price, availability and booking sit with the respective provider. We are not a partner of Uber and deliberately show no Uber prices.

💡 Save your hotel address as a screenshot before departure, ideally in the local language. That helps any driver more than an app description and still works without a signal.
