Lisbon has one of Europe’s most city-close airports, just a few kilometres from the centre. Even so, plenty of people get frustrated there, because pick-up for ride services is tightly regulated and the old town was never built for cars.

Metro straight from the terminal

The metro starts right at the terminal and gets you into the city centre with one change. It’s the cheapest option and perfectly fine if you’re travelling light. In Alfama and up on the hills, though, the charm quickly fades when you have to drag a suitcase over cobbles and up steps.

Private transfer: fixed price and a driver who waits

A pre-booked private transfer means: the driver knows your flight number, waits if you’re delayed, the price is fixed before you book, and luggage is included. It’s the best option for late arrivals, for families needing child seats, and for anywhere beyond the city centre. If you’re travelling light and want to stay spontaneous, you won’t need it.

Uber in Lisbon: only via car park P2

Ride services are common in Lisbon, but pick-up takes place բացառuively in car park P2. From arrivals, you go up one level to departures, head outside and cross the pedestrian bridge. You cannot be picked up at the taxi rank in the arrivals area. There is no such infrastructure at Terminal 2, so from there you take the free shuttle to Terminal 1. In parts of the old town, the driver may have to drop you at the edge because of access restrictions.

When a private transfer saves your nerves

If you’re travelling with family, arriving after a night flight or heading to an apartment in the upper town, a pre-booked driver is the most comfortable option, because you won’t have to hunt for a car park bridge with your luggage. If you’re going further out, to Cascais, Sintra or the coast, it also saves you dealing with connections on the day you arrive.

Hire car: yes for the coast, no for the city

In Lisbon itself, a car is more trouble than it’s worth: steep lanes, expensive car parks, low-emission zones. For the Algarve, Alentejo or the surf coast near Ericeira, though, it’s the best choice. Pick up the car on the day you continue your journey, not on the day you land.

How Reisedrop handles the question after booking

After your hotel booking we do not ask whether you want to buy a transfer, we ask how you are getting to your accommodation in Lissabon. You see two options side by side: a private transfer you lock in beforehand, and a direct link into the Uber app with your destination pre-filled if you would rather stay flexible. No flood of suppliers, no invented guide prices. Private transfers and rental cars are booked with external providers, and with Uber you are forwarded straight to Uber. Price, availability and booking sit with the respective provider. We are not a partner of Uber and deliberately show no Uber prices.

💡 Save your hotel address as a screenshot before you fly, ideally in the local language. That helps any driver more than an in-app description and still works without a signal.
