Milan has three airports, and that is exactly what makes the transfer question here a little more complicated. The large one is around fifty kilometres to the north-west, the smaller city airport is just a few kilometres east of town, and a third technically belongs to Bergamo.

Airport express and metro

From the large airport, a dedicated express train takes you into the city in about fifty minutes, while the city airport is now linked directly to the centre by metro. From Bergamo, the bus is the usual option. So first check where you are actually landing, because that changes the answer completely.

Private transfer: a fixed price and a driver who waits

A pre-booked private transfer means the driver knows your flight number, waits if you are delayed, the price is fixed before booking, and luggage is included. It is the best option for late arrivals, for families needing child seats, and for anywhere beyond the city centre. If you are travelling light and want to stay spontaneous, you will not need it.

Uber in Italy: taxi or premium, no budget tier

In Italy, there is no cheap entry-level Uber. Through the app, you either call a licensed taxi or book a premium car with driver. In Milan, the service is good, but it is more of a comfort option than a money-saving one. Local taxi apps tend to have the larger fleet in Italy.

When a private transfer makes sense

If you are arriving at the large airport, travelling with trade fair luggage, in a group, or late in the evening, a pre-booked driver is the calmest choice. It is also the easier option for onward journeys to the lakes, to Como, or into Piedmont than taking the train and changing en route.

Hire car: for the lakes, not for the city

Milan has a paid inner-city zone and an environmental zone, and parking is limited. For Lake Como, Lake Maggiore or the Alps, though, a car is the best choice. Pick it up at the end of your city stay, not on the day you arrive.

How Reisedrop handles the question after booking

After your hotel booking we do not ask whether you want to buy a transfer, we ask how you are getting to your accommodation in Mailand. You see two options side by side: a private transfer you lock in beforehand, and a direct link into the Uber app with your destination pre-filled if you would rather stay flexible. No flood of suppliers, no invented guide prices. Private transfers and rental cars are booked with external providers, and with Uber you are forwarded straight to Uber. Price, availability and booking sit with the respective provider. We are not a partner of Uber and deliberately show no Uber prices.

💡 Save your hotel address as a screenshot before departure, ideally in the local language. That helps any driver more than an app description and still works without a connection.
