Tenerife has two airports, and that matters when it comes to your transfer. The southern one serves the major beach resorts, while the northern one is closer to Santa Cruz and La Laguna. Land at the wrong one and you could end up travelling right across the island.

Scheduled buses across the island

The bus network is inexpensive and surprisingly good, with express services running between the south and the north. Even so, with suitcases, children and a hotel on a side street, it can still turn into a long afternoon, especially if you land late.

Private transfer: a fixed price and a driver who waits

A pre-booked private transfer means: the driver knows your flight number, waits if you are delayed, the price is fixed before you book, and luggage is included. It is the best option for late arrivals, for families needing child seats, and for anywhere further out than the city centre. If you are travelling light and want to stay spontaneous, you will not need it.

Uber in Tenerife: available, but thin on the ground

Uber can generally be used in Tenerife, but the fleet of licensed hire cars with drivers is small. In high season and away from the tourist hubs, you should not rely on it. Taxis are well organised locally and operate with fixed zone fares.

Why private transfers are popular here

Journey times from the airport to the holiday resorts can be long depending on the location, and many flights land in the evening. In that case, a pre-booked driver with a fixed price and the right vehicle size is the calmest choice, especially with family or sports equipment.

Car hire: almost essential in Tenerife

Teide, the Anaga Mountains, the north coast: without a car, you will only see part of the island. Book early, check for full-to-full fuel terms, and remember that mountain roads take time. For a pure beach holiday, a transfer plus a hire car for two days is enough.

How Reisedrop handles the question after booking

After your hotel booking we do not ask whether you want to buy a transfer, we ask how you are getting to your accommodation in Teneriffa. You see two options side by side: a private transfer you lock in beforehand, and a direct link into the Uber app with your destination pre-filled if you would rather stay flexible. No flood of suppliers, no invented guide prices. Private transfers and rental cars are booked with external providers, and with Uber you are forwarded straight to Uber. Price, availability and booking sit with the respective provider. We are not a partner of Uber and deliberately show no Uber prices.

💡 Save the hotel address as a screenshot before departure, ideally in the local language. That helps any driver more than an app description and still works without a signal.
