Oman is interesting for multi-stop trips because the country doesn’t revolve around individual cities, but around stages: Muscat, wadis, mountains, desert or coastal stretches combine into a logical route. A stationary trip would reduce much of this to long day trips. With hotels booked separately, you can plan each landscape with its own length of stay and combine simple city hotels, desert camps or coastal accommodation in a way that makes sense for each leg.
- The trip is about stages rather than one single base
- Different accommodation types fit different regions
- Several nights on the road save long return drives to Muscat

Best time to go
For many routes, October to April is most pleasant, when cities, desert and mountain regions can be combined more easily. Summer is much hotter across large parts of the country and limits your stages. In terms of price, shoulder periods outside the strongest winter peaks are often more interesting.
Booking tips
- Don’t plan a new place every night; instead set two to three bases with several nights each.
- If you’re self-driving, check early whether you need a suitable vehicle for certain mountain or desert sections.
