Egypt or Turkey with family? For many families in Germany, the decision comes down to four points: flight time, hotel style, beach quality and how far the holiday budget stretches. From FRA, MUC, BER, DUS, HAM or NUE, both are easy to reach, but not equally practical. Turkey often works better if you want shorter travel times, strong tourist infrastructure and straightforward beach holidays. Egypt stands out if sunshine, warm weather outside peak summer, a house reef or large resort complexes matter most. The key is not just the country, but the mix of travel season, children’s ages and what you need on site.

Flight time and arrival with children

For families, the journey is often the first filter. The Turkish Riviera is usually a bit quicker and easier to reach from Germany than Egypt’s main beach resorts. That matters when travelling with toddlers, evening departures or lots of luggage. Major airports such as FRA, MUC, BER and DUS usually offer broader choice, while HAM and NUE can have good seasonal options. Egypt is still family-friendly, especially if you prefer one slightly longer flight and then a very contained resort stay. If low-stress travel is your top priority, the basic travel logic often points to Turkey.

Hotels: kids’ club or resort world?

In Turkey, families often find hotels clearly built around beach holidays: compact layouts, many family rooms, reliable buffets, slides, kids’ clubs and short transfers in established resort areas. That tends to feel easy, especially for first trips with children. Egypt leans more toward large resorts, extensive pool areas and properties where you spend much of the holiday inside the hotel complex. That works well if you want to organise very little once you arrive. In both countries, check room categories, beach access and transfer times carefully. Family-friendly does not always mean child-friendly if the family room is just a larger standard room or the sea is mainly reached via jetties.

Beaches, swimming and water access

There is no universal winner on beaches, but there are clear differences. Turkey is often easier for families with small children who need safe shoreline play: in many areas you get sand or fine pebbles, gently sloping water and classic bathing bays. In Egypt, a lot depends on the hotel. Some resorts have sandy lagoons, while others mainly use jetties over coral into deeper water. That is a plus for snorkelling, but less practical for non-swimmers. Before booking, look beyond beach photos and check the wording around sea entry, water shoes and depth near the shore.

Weather and the best travel windows for families

Turkey is especially strong for classic summer school-holiday beach trips. The weather suits a long bathing season, and the overall feel is familiar if you want to leave the hotel in the evening now and then. Egypt becomes particularly attractive outside peak summer if you want reliably warm conditions. During Germany’s cooler months, that can be a major advantage for families. In high summer, parts of Egypt can feel very hot, which may be tiring with younger children. Always match your planning to the official school holiday calendars for your federal state rather than assuming one fixed pattern.

Overall budget: where does it go further?

On budget, the answer depends not only on the destination country but also on season, departure airport and hotel standard. Turkey is often easier to calculate for families because there is a wide range of family-focused hotels across different comfort levels. Egypt can be strong on the value of resort size, pools and sunshine, especially outside the most in-demand travel periods. In both countries, school holidays, convenient flight times, larger family rooms and direct beach access consume a large share of the budget. To keep costs manageable, families usually do better with flexible weekdays, longer booking windows and alternative airports such as NUE instead of only the biggest hubs.

💡 Before deciding, check three things in every hotel listing: real transfer time, beach access without a jetty, and whether the family room actually has two sleeping areas. With children, those details matter more than the country name.

Who should choose Egypt, and who should choose Turkey?

Turkey usually suits families who want shorter flights, easy beaches and lots of choice in classic beach hotels. Egypt is a better fit if you want sunshine outside peak season, are happy to stay in a large resort, or want snorkelling to be part of the trip. With babies and younger non-swimmers, Turkey is often the simpler option. With older children who enjoy pools, water parks and marine life, Egypt can work very well. If you decide purely on everyday practicality, Turkey often comes out ahead. If weather windows and resort-based holidays matter most, Egypt has clear strengths.
