Three open tabs, three different prices for the same hotel room — and in the end that nagging sense that someone is making very good money off this. That’s what travel planning looked like for us for far too long. At some point, the frustration got big enough: we built our own platform. Since 1 November, reisedrop.com has been live — a Swiss alternative to Booking, Trivago and the rest. Time to tell the story honestly: what’s behind it, and what it can actually do.
One search instead of thirty tabs
Reisedrop compares more than two million properties, flights from over 300 airlines, more than 300,000 activities and even live events at your destination — all in a single search. You see the flight, hotel and concert at your destination side by side, instead of hopping between five portals and losing the plot by the end. Payment is in Franken (or euro, or dollars), securely processed via Stripe with 3-D Secure. Confirmation and ticket land straight in your inbox. Sounds basic? It should be. And yet the big players still fail at it surprisingly often.
The feature we use most ourselves
It’s easy to miss: a small banner above the flight results that uses historical price data to tell you whether fares are more likely to rise or fall — “book now” or “wait a bit.” Like having a colleague who knows the market inside out glance over your shoulder. On top of that, there are free price alerts (your inbox gives you a nudge when your trip gets cheaper), flexible date search with ±3 days, and a “cheapest month” view for anyone who has room to play with dates. None of it costs a thing. Honestly, these are exactly the tools we always wished we’d had as travellers.
Swiss — even in the places you don’t see
The platform speaks eight languages, including Romansh. That’s not a marketing gimmick, but a nod to the Surselva, where co-founder Carmen grew up. Support requests don’t disappear into an anonymous hotline somewhere in a random time zone — they come to us, with help from our AI assistant Nelly, who’s awake around the clock. And if you invite friends, you’re rewarded: once they make their first booking, both of you receive credit.
David versus Goliath, with our cards on the table
Reisedrop is self-funded. No investor, no agency, just a two-person team from Lucerne and around 10,000 Franken in startup capital — that’s the whole truth, and we’re not hiding it. Quite the opposite: we’re documenting the journey publicly on social media, setbacks included. Why are we telling you this? Because every booking with us doesn’t just help protect your holiday budget — it also proves there’s still another way of doing things beyond the billion-dollar giants. A little digital independence, made in Lucerne.
